NOVEMBER 7 2008, BEDFORD, NS : Bedford filmmaker Paul St.Amand's documentary Parallels won top prize Thursday from the 2008 Triggerstreet Online Film Festival. Founded by actor-director Kevin Spacey and producer Dana Brunetti, Triggerstreet is a premiere online venue for emerging writers and filmmakers. The panel of judges included Jeff Goldblum, Sam Mendes, Robin Williams, Rufus Wainwright, Roger Waters, and Dave Stewart.
"This is a tremendous thrill," said St.Amand. "Knowing my film was viewed and enjoyed by such an illustrious jury makes me very proud."
Parallels, directed by St.Amand and produced by Elden Stewart, is a double portrait of U.S. Army deserters from the Vietnam and Iraq wars. The film debuted at the Vancouver International Film Festival and has screened at festivals across Canada.
"Making this film was an experience I'll never forget," said St.Amand. "The emotions it stirs up are still fresh, and I am so grateful to the people who shared their stories with us."
Triggerstreet is the latest in a string of plaudits for St.Amand's acclaimed short film. Parallels won the Canadian Reflections Award at the 2007 Air Canada enRoute Film Festival, Best Documentary at the 2007 BC Student Film Festival, and a Golden Sheaf nomination at the 2007 Yorkton Short Film Festival. Last year St.Amand received the Lenhoff Award for Best Director at Vancouver Film School for Parallels and his science fiction short Grover's Mill.
